The Kunstmuseum Olten is opening an exhibition dedicated to the preliminary (hand-) drawings of architects. The project presents drawings or sketches that manifest initial spatial thoughts and structure ideas for architectural design. The work on display in the exhibition comes from four archives and 50 Swiss offices, including two sketches by Gigon/Guyer.
Exhibition location Kunstmuseum Olten
Exhibition period 1. Juni – 25. August 2024
In the first project - still on the narrow, sloping "Schiabach" industrial site - we conceived the exhibition rooms. They emerged as cubes alongside the existing retaining walls, with façades made of coloured, layered concrete. The exhibition rooms were already accessed via a connecting hall and illuminated through skylight lanterns.
In the final project on the trapezoidal plot surrounded by trees - a former tennis court and hotel garden - we designed detached exhibition rooms with a glass shell. The idea of the access hall was retained in a similar way to the "Schiabach" project, as were the skylights flush with the façade, allowing daylight to penetrate even with thick layers of snow on the roof.
