Autumn Semester 2021 Gigon/Guyer, D-ARCH, ETH Zurich

Material exhibition, accompanying the design semester autumn 2021, Professur Gigon/Guyer, D-ARCH, ETH Zurich.

Among the environmental impacts of construction, primary energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions for the production and disposal of building materials are significant factors that concern us today.

In order to get an overview of the relevant orders of magnitude, a selection of common building materials was made from the sample collection of the ETH Material Hub and the available mass-related data on grey energy and CO2 emissions were converted in collaboration with the students to one square metre each with a common material thickness.

In this way, the relevant environmental impacts of different materials can be recorded in the exhibition in a very clear and direct way.
